"I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing."
(John 15:5)

2 Timothy

Paul wrote 2 Timothy during his second imprisonment in Rome under the evil Emperor Nero. Unlike his first imprisonment (when he was able to live in a rented house (Ac 28:30)), this time he was put in a cold dungeon (4:13). He was chained like a common criminal (1:16; 2:9). Paul knew that his mission life on earth was almost over (4:6-8). Even in this difficult personal situation, Paul was concerned about the churches and encouraged Timothy to guard and preserve the gospel (1:14; 3:14) and charged him to keep on preaching (4:2).
