Like many other books of the Bible, the book of Joshua teaches us the faithfulness of God. After Noah’s flood, God called Abraham to begin his long term redemptive history to save the dying humanity, and promised him to give the land of Canaan to his descendants (Ge 13:15). More than 500 years had passed since then. Meanwhile, the Israelites (Abraham’s descendants) experienced many ups and downs. They had been slaves in Egypt for 430 years. After the exodus from Egypt, they wandered around through the desert, because they did not obey God (Jos 5:6) and needed God’s training. Finally, however, God fulfilled his promise by helping Joshua to lead his people to enter and claim the Promised Land. Our God is a God who keeps his promises.
