The Gospel of Matthew


Matthew used to be a tax collector named Levi who was hated by his fellow Jews because of his selfish life. Jesus called him from his tax office, and changed him from an outcast into St. Matthew. The kingdom of heaven is the theme of this book as well as the major theme of Jesus' preaching. Matthew also recorded the beautiful Sermon on the Mount of Jesus (Mt 5-7), which has been called the "Constitution of the Kingdom of Heaven." As we study Matthew's Gospel, may we welcome Jesus as our King and build our lives on the Rock by hearing and obeying Jesus' words!
